School History

The school’s history dates back to 1983 when Edmonds Montessori was known as Horizon Montessori. Although the name has changed the school has continued to thrive and provided Montessori philosophy for well over two thousand children.

The history of the school is also intertwined with the building it occupies. The Frances E Anderson center was originally a grade school opening in 1928. The building became known as the Frances E Anderson center in 1979 when the City of Edmonds purchased Edmonds Elementary from the school district. It was renamed for Frances Anderson’s dedication to education. There is a display about Frances Anderson located in the main hallway down from the front desk. It is an excellent chance to read about her. She spent the better part of 40 years as a teacher and principal at Edmonds Grade School and Edmonds Elementary. Edmonds Montessori is privileged to continue the legacy of educating children started so many years ago in this building.
